Newsletter of the WU Executive Academy – Vienna University of Economics and Business
NEWSLETTER DECEMBER 2016

Dear readers,

In his landmark book, Innovation and Entrepreneurship, from 1985, Peter Drucker already anticipated the shift towards a society that is characterized by entrepreneurship, innovation and dynamics. The entrepreneur should be in the heart of the economic life – as the driving force of a market-based, competitive and wealth-creating economy.

"Peter Drucker turned out to be right. What matters in the 21st century is the ability to think and act like an entrepreneur," says Nikolaus Franke, Academic Director of the WU Executive Academy's Professional MBA Entrepreneurship & Innovation and Head of WU's Institute for Entrepreneurship & Innovation. To find out the reasons behind this, please click here.

Scandals like the manipulated emissions tests at Volkswagen pose the question of what causes so many managers to act irresponsibly. In a recently conducted study, Günter Stahl, Professor of International Management at WU and faculty member of the WU Executive Academy for many years, has been investigating the factors that influence managers’ behavior. According to his results, the individual’s personal characteristics are only part of the story, while organizational, social, and cultural variables also play an important role. Happy reading and see you next year!

Prof. Nikolaus Franke, Academic Director of the WU Executive Academy's Professional MBA Entrepreneurship & Innovation and Head of WU's Institute for Entrepreneurship & Innovation subscribes to this idea: “What matters in the 21st century is the ability to think and act like an entrepreneur.”

Digital storytelling focusses on facts instead of emotions. The narrator presents implicit knowledge as a metaphor. This ancient cultural technique is gaining more and more significance in digital marketing. How you can tell great digital stories without large budgets or sophisticated technology and why it is better to use a blender to grind smartphones, steel screws and instruments rather than focusing on its technological assets, is explained by our online marketing expert, Ritchie Pettauer, in this edition of our Digital Media series.
