Newsletter of the WU Executive Academy – Vienna University of Economics and Business
NEWSLETTER APRIL 2016

Dear readers,

What has long been an integral part of the WU Executive Academy's MBA programs has now been scientifically proven by Prof. Nikolaus Franke, Head of WU’s Institute for Entrepreneurship & Innovation; he recently carried out a research project examining the effects of moving from one cultural setting to another. The results speak for themselves: intercultural experience significantly improves people's ability to spot entrepreneurial opportunities.

Please click here for more details on the research project and the benefits of the specific setting of an MBA at the WU Executive Academy.

In modern project management, the general conditions have fundamentally changed over the last 20 years. At the same time, the amount of project work undertaken by companies is constantly increasing. The ability to carry out projects professionally will be instrumental to a company's success - or failure. Why this is so and which developments will be of particular importance in the future, is explained by Prof. Martina Huemann, Academic Director of the Professional MBA Project Management, in this edition of our newsletter.

Prof. Martina Huemann, Head of WU’s Project Management Group and Academic Director of the Professional MBA Project Management, presents four areas which will be of particular importance when completing projects successfully in the future.

Record Global Executive MBA class despite difficult conditions

A challenging economic climate and a decline in the global MBA market normally do not have a positive effect on an MBA program’s success. So it is all the more remarkable that the current class of the Global Executive MBA is not only the biggest, but also the most international cohort of students in the program's history. Jochen Borenich, Member of the Management Board of Kapsch BusinessCom, offered his congratulations on this extraordinary achievement, emphasizing in his keynote during the welcome reception on April 5, 2016, the particular challenges tomorrow’s managers will face due to progressing digitalization and new technologies.

Tanja Spennlingwimmer, Head of Commercial Project Management at Kapsch TrafficCom

As a child, Tanja Spennlingwimmer didn’t want to become a hairdresser or a princess but rather a university professor. In any case, her career profile shows that she has high goals: whether it is by setting up a company’s first subsidiary in a foreign market straight after graduating or by climbing the Mont Blanc.
