NEWSLETTER MAY 2019

Dear reader!

We humans are constantly in search of structure and order because this helps us understand complicated relationships better. The same logic applies when it comes to understanding the complex issue of leadership from a holistic perspective. It is therefore helpful to draw on existing structural systems from another discipline, such as the natural sciences. The chemical elements of the periodic table for example are wonderfully suitable for making analogies to leadership and getting a better orientation.

Helga Pattart-Drexler, Head of Executive Education at the WU Executive Academy, took a closer look at the individual groups of leadership elements. Here, she explains why there are also 4 states of aggregation in the periodic table of leadership and what good leadership actually means.

No one knows what the future holds. But what if we learn how to manage the uncertainty and how to prepare for as many scenarios as possible? Strategic foresight is a concept that enables executives to shape the future without being at the mercy of its vagaries. The WU Executive Academy's new short program "Strategic Foresight - New Approaches for Creating Strategy" is designed to provide executives and managers with innovative tools and methods for identifying developments early on, dealing better with unforeseeable challenges and creating good strategies in the face of constantly changing realities.

Happy reading!

Confirmation bias and the desire to be right

The phenomenon known in psychology as "confirmation error" means that we tend to see what confirms our presuppositions, views and opinions. “Confirmation bias is also frequently encountered in finance.
