NEWSLETTER JANUARY  2018

Dear readers!

Almost a billion people around the globe are expected to watch the Super Bowl live on TV on February 4, 2018. Among them will be not only sports fans, but also Wall Street investors because if the legendary Super Bowl Indicator is to be believed, the stock market prices will go up or down in the coming year, depending on the winning team’s conference. In light of the 52nd edition of this mega sports event, we asked Prof. Manfred Frühwirth, Academic Director of the Professional MBA Finance, if there really is a link between the Super Bowl and the stock market.

In recent years, critics have repeatedly raised the question of whether doing an MBA or a postgraduate law degree is still worth it given that it is a considerable investment in terms of time and, above all, money. For those who make an informed choice so they attend the program that matches their goals, the answer is clear: It is definitely worth it. This is also reflected by the findings of the WU Executive Academy's recent alumni survey: the return on investment (ROI) is right.

Like vs. dislike - is there a place where judgement is absent?

Today we rate just about everything. After visiting the restrooms at airports, we leave information about the sanitary conditions and the toilet-paper situation. When we order a customized burger at Mc Donald’s, we rate the service quality and the size of cucumber slices. This is how constant ratings have crept into our everyday life and have shaped our idea of what is normal. Prof. Kathrin Köster and Helga Pattart-Drexler looked at the drawbacks of our “like vs. dislike” habits and show in this utopia what other scenarios are available.
